Dokken - Back For The Attack (1987)

Το συγκεκριμένο άλμπουμ και η επιτυχία του ειναι αποτέλεσμα των προηγούμενων προσπαθειών της μπάντας να ''βρει'' τον ήχο της. Τα Breaking the Chains, Tooth and Nail και Under Lock and Key ειχαν τις δικές του δυνατές συνθέσεις, αλλα το Back for the Attack πραγματικά προκαλεί δέος. Μέσα από το συγκεκριμένο άλμπουμ μπορει κάποιος να καταλάβει οτι το δίδυμο Lynch/Dokken δεν έχει να ζηλέψει τίποτα από άλλeς συνεργασίες καλλιτεχνών στο χώρο της rock και της metal. Αξίζει όμως να αναφαίρω και την συνεισφορά του Jeff Pilson (μπάσο) ο οποίος συμμετείχε στην δημιουργεία όλου του δίσκου και αυτο δεν πρεπει να παιρνά απαρατήρητο. Ειναι ένας must-δίσκος για κιθαρίστες κυρίως για τα εκπληκτικά σόλος στην κιθάρα του Lynch που πραγματικά παίρνει φωτιά μέσα από τα 13 τραγούδια. Ειναι ένας πολύ συμπαγής δίσκος με τεράστιες ερμηνείες αφού ακόμα και τα ενδιάμεσα τραγούδια που μπαίνουν για να ''συμπληρώσουν'' το άλμπουμ ειναι αξιόλογα και κρατούν το ύφος της μπάντας και την ροή σε σταθερή πορεία. Προσωπικά ξεχωρίζω το μέγιστο ''Kiss of Death'' που ανοίγει τον δίσκο με αυτο υπέροχο riff και κτυπάει ανελέητα μέχρι το τελευταίο λεπτό, το δυναμικό ''Heaven Sent'' με τους όμορφους στοίχους, το ''Mr. Scary'' που αν και instrumental στέκεται αντάξια  και το ''Dream Warriors'' που τονίζει τις φωνητικές αρετές του Don.

The success behind the specific album is the result of the band's previous attempts to establish it's trademark sound. Breaking the Chains, Tooth and Nail as well as Under Lock and Key had their powerful moments, however Back for The Attack is the one that I believe creates admiration. Through the specific album someone can realize that the Lynch/Dokken twin has nothing to be jealous of other partnerships in rock and metal music. In addition, It is worth noting the participation of Jeff Pilson (bass) who contributed in all of the album's songs. It is a must-have album (especially for guitarists) since Lynch's guitar is constantly on fire throughout the 13 songs. Overall, it's a solid album with great performances from all instruments. It's of the few albums that even it's filler songs are worthy and keep the flow and the style constant. Personally, I distinguish the enormous opening track ''Kiss of Death'' for it's hammering riff, the powerful ''Heaven Sent'' with it's neat lyrics, ''Mr. Scary'' the unmovable instrumental of the album and ''Dream Warriors'' the song which signifies Don's vocal abilities.
